Ayurveda diet

“You are what you eat” is a saying that you have probably heard before. It holds true not only on the physical but also on the psychological level. For healthy living we require a balanced diet constituted of protein, carbohydrates and fats, minerals, vitamins, etc. Ayurveda has considered about the diet in detail. The most important principle in the Ayurvedic Diet is that your food is fresh (without pesticides, additives and other chemicals), seasonal, and as often as possible local. Fresh doesn’t, however, mean raw.

The Ayurvedic diet is one that not only nourishes the body, but also restores balance of ‘Tridoshas’ (all 3 life energies) which is very much essential for maintaining Health. Depending on our dosha, or constitutional type, some foods can be beneficial, and others should be avoided. These same foods may have the opposite effect on another dosha. The science of Ayurveda teaches that right diet is the foundation of healing. For maximum health and vitality, the ideal diet is one that balances our doshas.

As well as your treatments also your diet will be adjusted to your constitutional type Vata, Pitta or Kapha in order to balance your life energy.

Ayurveda recognizes six tastes and it’s quite important to have all of these 6 tastes in your diet every day:

Sweet – sugar, honey, rice, pasta, milk, etc.
Sour – lemons, hard cheese, yogurt, vinegar, etc.
Salty – salt, any salty food
Pungent – chili peppers, cayenne, ginger, any hot spice
Bitter – leafy greens, turmeric, lettuce, etc.
Astringent – pomegranate, beans, lentils, etc.
